Former Liberty County Panther basketball player Michael Manning will soon join the Mariners basketball team after the College of Coastal Georgia picked him up last week, according to a release issued by school media relation specialist John Cornell. Manning is among the school’s six new recruits acquired by coach Gerald Cox for the 2010-11 season. Cox recruited Manning as a wing player. The coach said the 6-foot, 6-inch athlete will add size, skill and versatility to the Mariners squad. "Michael offers a great versatility with his size and abilities," Cox said. "He can take it to the rim, shoot from the outside and rebounds very well for his position." According to the release, the Mariners finished last season with a record of 18-15 (10-4 in conference play) and were runners-up in the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association. Cox is optimistic about the coming season. "After last year’s tough finish (a 92-89 double-overtime loss to Middle Georgia in the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association championship game), I believe that these six players can come in and have an immediate impact on our program and help lead us to a very successful season," he said. The College of Coastal Georgia Mariners begin their season in October. Practice starts the first of the month and games start late in the month. Games are played at Howard Coffin Gymnasium.

Middle Georgia Technical College Nationally Ranked in Community College Week Magazine
Warner Robins - For the third year in a row, Middle Georgia Technical College has been ranked among the top 100 producing two-year colleges for one-year certificates by Community College Week (CCW) Magazine. CCW is a national publication that is published in Virginia.
MGTC ranking for 2010 is 23rd. This is up from the 25th spot in 2009 and 29th in 2008.
The top 100 rankings published by CCW are based on data for degrees and certificates awarded during the 2008-2009 academic year. The data are collected by the National Center for Education Statistics, or NCES, through Integrated Post-secondary Education Data Set, or IPEDS, completions survey.
Since 1988, CCW has been the independent source of in-depth information for and about two-year college faculty, administrators, and trustees. Published biweekly, each edition provides readers with news and features concerning community and two-year colleges, including analyses of critical academic trends and issues, vital statistics, technology updates, and employment opportunities.
CCW publishes a special report annually ranking the top 100 degree and certificate producing two-year institutions. The report acknowledges that while it is just one measure of the College's contribution to the community, the number of degrees and certificates awarded is one of the most tangible and countable outcomes that lends itself to analysis and ranking.
Middle Georgia Technical College offers over 75 Technical Certificates of Credit in the areas of Aerospace, Business, Allied Health, Personal Services, Industry and Trade, and Information Technology, including Commercial Truck Driving. The length of time for completion varies for Technical Certificates, but usually takes anywhere from one to four quarters. In addition, MGTC also offers several completely online certificates, including Medical Billing Clerk and Network Technician.
